Pedro Olaya Trejos

Pedro Olaya, Ph.D., is a full-time consultant-professor in Mathematics and Data Science at the ITESM, Guadalajara campus.

Pedro holds a double B.Sc. in math (1999) and physics (2000) from U. de los Andes in Bogotá (with monographs on Fiber Bundles and on S-Duality). He also completed a Master (2005) and a Ph.D. in Mathematics (2007) from Oklahoma U., both in the research area of Real Lie Groups. He has a Graduate Certificate in Business & IT from Melbourne U.(2011).

Pedro has been deeply interested in positively impacting the world with the help of data, mathematical algorithms, and business methodologies (e.g., design thinking, issue-based problem solving, agility, maturity models, balanced scorecard, etc.). Pedro has been employed doing this in the following companies: MOCA (Colombia-Spain, startup), Ecopetrol (Colombia, NYSE: EC), Pricewaterhouse Coopers - PwC (Projects in Colombia, Chile, Argentina & Mexico), Dataminh (Colombia, startup), Maachi (Colombia-USA, startup), Rightship (Australia, JV Rio Tinto, BHP & Cargill) and Pacific Brands (Australia, ASX: PBG).

On the other hand, he was co-creator and professor of the master's degree in Analytics for Business Intelligence at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (PUJ) in Bogotá. He has been a professor-consultant of the PUJ of Mathematics (2008-2009) as well as Business Administration (2012-2015). He has also taught statistics and mathematics at: Rosario U., Saint Mary´s College of California, Oklahoma U., San Martín U. and Universidad de los Andes.

Research areas

Pedro has done practical-theoretical research in the areas of Supply Chain Optimization using multi paradigm simulations, Economical Indices Forecasting, Design Thinking, New Product Development (NPD), Topological Data Analysis (TDA) and Representation Theory of Real Lie Groups.
